Arpad Szallar passed away peacefully on Nov. 12 at his home in Loveland surrounded by his family and beloved cat, Lily. Arpad was born Oct. 13, 1929 in East Chicago, Ind., to John and Elizabeth Szallar. He was one of eight children. He served 20 years in the Army, retiring as Master Sergeant E-8 in 1966. He then managed and worked on his father-in-law’s ranch in Gunnison, Colo. Arpad and Audrey were married July 9, 1955 in Gunnison. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. He and Audrey moved to Loveland after spending 18 winters in Mesa, Ariz. Their children are Arthur Szallar and wife Janice of Johnstown, Colo.; Ray and Loretta Szallar of Gunnison; and Valerie Szallar of Two Buttes, Colo. He also has six grandchildren and five great-grandsons. Cremation and burial are taking place in Gunnison.
